Launched in May 2016, Agribusiness TV is a Web TV specialised in the production of success story videos of young Africans engaged in agricultural entrepreneurship. Its focus on youth in agricultural entrepreneurship came from an observation. Despite the fact that the economy of most African countries depends on agriculture, and that 70% of the population in Africa is below 30 years, youth do not take agriculture as a career choice due to the negative perception that they have on the sector. Hence, Agribusiness TV wanted to bring forward stories of the young entrepreneurs who have succeeded in agribusiness, which could inspire other youths to consider agricultural entrepreneurship as a career option. This would not only create jobs, but also contribute to food security.

In the past 22 months, Agribusiness TV has produced over 90 videos from 12 countries in Africa, where each video tells the story of a young entrepreneur. These videos have been viewed over 6 million times, and comments from the audience point out to the fact that this type of content is useful, both to sensitise and to inspire African youths on agricultural entrepreneurship. In 2018, Agribusiness TV wishes to expand its activities in more countries and regions in Africa. In this context, we are calling for expression of interest from multimedia journalists for the production of videos.

How we work

Agribusiness TV is based in Burkina Faso and we work online with a network of journalists who are based locally where the entrepreneur operates. The journalist proposes a subject based on a proposition form developed by Agribusiness TV. Upon validation, the journalist prepares the interviews, produces the videos in high definition and sends the images through an online file transfer platform to Agribusiness TV, where the editing of the videos is done.

The video journalists are paid per video produced. The cost of each video depends on the story being covered, the location of the entrepreneur etc. This is agreed with the journalist before the start of the work.
