The Economic and Financial Police Division (DPEF) of the Judicial Police Directorate (DPJ) seized 726 twenty-litre containers of cooking oil unfit for consumption in Ouagadougou.
This intervention follows an anonymous tip-off reporting illegal reconditioning of cooking oil in premises converted into a storage facility.
Analyses conducted by the French National Agency for Environmental, Food, Occupational and Health Product Safety (ANSSEAT) revealed that the stored oil was unfit for human consumption. The products were stored in unsanitary and non-compliant conditions, posing a real danger to public health.
Following the operation, three individuals were arrested and will be held accountable for their actions before the competent courts of Burkina Faso.
The Municipal Police took the opportunity to urge industry players to strictly comply with current laws and standards and to refrain from any practices that could endanger consumer’s health.
They also thanked citizens for their honest cooperation and encouraged them to continue reporting suspicious cases by calling the toll-free numbers 17, 16 and 10 10.
