The Beninese government has introduced specific measures support rice, cotton, soya and cashews producers, effective from the 2026–2027 agricultural season. The decision was announced following the Council of Ministers meeting held on 3 June 2026 under the chairmanship of the Head of State, Romuald WADAGNI.

According to the authorities, this measure aims to better reward producers’ efforts, sustainably boost their incomes, secure supplies for local processing plants, and consolidate Benin’s position as a leading agricultural and agro-industrial power in West Africa.

In the cotton sector, producers will receive an exceptional bonus of 10 CFA francs per kilogramme when national production exceeds 700,000 tonnes.

For the cashew, soybean and rice sectors, a premium of 10 CFA francs per kilogramme will be granted to producers for quantities delivered to local processing plants. This measure is intended, in particular, to encourage the processing of agricultural products within the country.

Furthermore, the Council of Ministers has instructed the relevant ministries to undertake a strategic review of the restructuring of the rice, soybean and cashew sectors, with a view to making them more competitive and supporting their long-term development.
