On Monday, 2nd February 2026, the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Commander Ismaël SOMBIÉ, paid a field visit to the Nasso drinking water treatment plant, located in the Guiriko region. The purpose of this visit was to see first-hand how this strategic infrastructure, which supplies a large part of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso with drinking water, operates.

Commissioned in the early 2000s and gradually expanded through several extensions, the plant now has a daily production capacity of over 81,000 m³ of water, providing nearly 95% of the city’s drinking water supply.

Alongside the technical teams working on a daily basis, the minister gained an insight into the operational realities of the site, its performance, and the challenges associated with maintaining continuity of service in a context of high-water demand.

During the visit, Commander Ismaël SOMBIÉ emphasised the need to put an end to prolonged interruptions and persistent leakages, calling on the teams to step up their efforts to improve the quality and continuity of service.

He also reiterated the vision of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, which aims to guarantee sustainable and equitable access to drinking water for all.

Through this visit, the authorities intend to make access to drinking water an effective right for every citizen, relying on efficient infrastructure and the constant mobilisation of teams in the field.
