In 2018, 3 Kenyan women founded Exotic EPZ Ltd, a company that processes and exports nuts, coffee and oils.
The objective of the three women entrepreneurs, Charity Ndegwa, Jane Maigua, and Louise Maina was not only to establish a business that would be profitable, but also one that can support women and smallholder farmers and improve their livelihoods. With their company Exotic EPZ, they started processing macadamia nuts which are exported.
In its first year of operation, Exotic EPZ has employed over 100 people and it is projected that the company will export over 30 tonnes of macadamia nuts per month by the end of 2019.
