In a joint statement signed on 13 May 2026, the Burkinabe government introduced maximum retail prices that must not be exceeded for the sale of locally produced rice throughout the country. The measure applies to several categories of rice and aims to regulate the market for the benefit of consumers.
The products concerned are long-grain rice, rice with 25% broken grains, 100% broken-grain rice and parboiled rice. These prices must be adhered to in all regional capitals across Burkina Faso.
The authorities also specify that the price of paddy rice at the producer level is now set at 165 CFA francs per kilogramme across the whole country.
Through this decision, the government aims to better regulate the marketing of local rice and protect consumers against any excessive price rises.
Economic operators, traders and consumers are urged to strictly comply with these new provisions. In the event of non-compliance, reports can be made via the following freephone numbers: 80 00 11 84 / 85 / 86.
