Description

Abundant between March and July, the mango is a perishable fruit that used to cause significant post-harvest losses for producers in Burkina Faso. In response to this challenge, CEAS, in partnership with IRSAT, introduced mango drying as early as 1988.

The initiative, first trialled by women in Ouahigouya, has continued to grow to become a fully-fledged, structured sector. Thanks to the commitment of those involved, the creation of processing units and the ATESTA dryer, dried mango is now a major economic driver.

The result: nearly 70% of production is added value, jobs have been created, and access to international markets has been facilitated.
