As the celebration of 8 March approaches, the Burkinabè government is putting its words into action. On 3 March 2026, an eight-hectare vegetable garden was officially handed over to the women of Komtoèga, marking a decisive for the local economy and food sovereignty in the Nakambé region.

A concrete response to the needs of rural women

Driven by the vision of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, that the Minister Secretary-General of the Presidency of Burkina Faso, Zakaria SORÉ, inaugurated this production area. The idea is to transform the celebration of International Women’s Day into concrete and sustainable actions.

Located in the province of Boulgou, this site is not just a plot of land. It is a modern production facility designed to break the cycle of economic dependence. The perimeter is equipped with four boreholes to ensure a constant supply of water. This will promote continuous operation outside the rainy seasons. In addition, the government has announced additional support measures, including the provision of agricultural inputs and access to equipment.

According to Yiyé Abraham SOMDO, Governor of the Nakambé region, strengthening women’s economic independence is a lever for the development of families, communities and the region,. He emphasised the responsibility of beneficiaries, calling on them to manage the infrastructure in a concerted and rigorous manner to ensure its sustainability.

A lever for food sovereignty

For Minister Zakaria SORÉ, this project is part of a broader national dynamic, food sovereignty. By developing lowland areas and harnessing local potential, Burkina Faso is strengthening its internal production capacities.

Speaking on behalf of the women of Komtoèga, Habibou ZEBA expressed her gratitude to the authorities. For these women producers, secure access to land and water represents an opportunity to improve their living conditions and those of their children in a sustainable way.

This inauguration in Komtoèga symbolises a policy that prioritises structural investments over short-lived celebrations. By facilitating women’s access to production resources, Burkina Faso is investing in the very engine of its local development.
