Shea caterpillar to fight malnutrition

Kahitouo HIEN, engineer in agro-chemistry, works on the development of nutritional solutions with shea caterpillar through his enterprise FASOPRO.

Kahitouo got into entrepreneurship at a very young age. He started to rear livestock animals to finance his studies and from that experience, he knew that entrepreneurship is his thing. While studying at the University, he got interested in the nutritional value shea caterpillar and its potential to prevent malnutrition in Burkina Faso. He therefore decided to exploit it further and developed his project on shea caterpillar to make it a business.

Today, FASOPRO collaborates with over 100 women in Bobo-Dioulasso to collect caterpillars during the rainy season. In Ouagadougou, the enterprise employs 5 people to transform and pack the caterpillars for sale.
