In Rimkieta, in District 3 of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), a place that is both a rubbish dump and a backwater gives off a foul odour. The unbreathable atmosphere makes daily life difficult for the neighbourhood’s residents.
This stagnant water is teeming with fish, but some are dying due to the unsanitary conditions. The decomposing carcasses contribute to the foul odour that spreads throughout the neighbourhood.
Despite this, some fishermen come here to cast their nets and then sell their catch on the side of the road, with all the risks that this entails for consumers.
