Burkina Faso: Giving a new life to degraded lands

Description

In Burkina Faso, land degradation has become a serious threat to sustainable development. Denuded lands represent more than 24% of the total agricultural area.

This phenomenon contributes to reducing the useful agricultural land and the level of production, thus plunging many producers into poverty to the point of pushing some towards emigration.

Launched in August 2013 for a six-year period, DryDev, the Drylands Development Programme, worked with communities in six sub-watersheds in Burkina Faso to treat gullies, to make them become non-erosive.
