Prestigious international prize awarded to Agribusiness TV

Agribusiness TV’s victory is a testament to the project’s astounding success and impact over the last year. Since it launched in May 2016 with a grant  support from CTA – awarded via the youth call for proposals scheme – Agribusiness TV has been showcasing stories of innovative African youth agripreneurs and inspiring – young people interested in agribusiness entrepreneurship, in Africa and beyond.

Agribusiness TV co-founders, Inoussa Maiga and Nawsheen Hosenally stated that, “As a young organisation, project and team, we feel very honoured to have received this prestigious award. It is a huge recognition at the international level for the work that we are doing with Agribusiness TV.”

The web and mobile application was founded by MediaProd, a young independent media production company in Burkina Faso, to produce short films specifically designed to be shared on the web and via social media using mobile phones. The intended mission is to use video as a tool for promoting and re-evaluating the agricultural sector in the eyes of young people in Africa, by showing the successful paths of young agricultural entrepreneurs and their innovations.

Only a year after its launch, Agribusiness TV not only claims victory of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) prize, but also triumphs in engaging youth in agribusiness. The project has produced over 60 videos within 12 months, which have been viewed more than 2.5 million times.

With interviews, testimonials and stories from the field, Agribusiness TV features young women and men engaged in agribusiness across 11 African countries. The films focus on addressing the key questions related to the entrepreneurs’ success and ask where the current opportunities in the sector exist and how they can be seized.
